Bonus Activity: One reason we have so many bones is so our bodies can bend. How many places do you think your body can bend? Take a guess, and write it down. Now let’s find out! Start with your toes. Do they bend? Do some toes bend in more than one place? How about your heels? Your ankles? Keep going. Keep track of how many places your body can bend. Was your guess close to the real answer?

Bonus Activity: Getting a vaccine isn't fun, but it's better than getting really sick! Think of other not-so-fun things that you do to stay healthy. For example, you brush your teeth every day. You go to bed early to get enough sleep. Now think like an inventor! What can you invent to make these healthy activities more fun? Maybe your toothbrush can light up and play a song while you brush your teeth! Or you can turn your bed into a fort. Draw or write about your fun and healthy inventions!

Bonus Activity: The island of Ap Lei Chau is tiny! A person can walk all the way around it in less than an hour. But almost 90,000 people live on this tiny island! How can they all fit? Think about how skyscrapers let lots of people live on a small patch of land. Describe or draw a city that you could build on a small island. Don’t forget to leave space for parks and places to play! How can you arrange the buildings so that everyone has a nice place to live and also has a great view?

Bonus Activity: The Earth is round, like a basketball. So is the Moon. Look around your home for things that are round or rounded—like oranges or eggs or marbles. What other shapes do you see around you? Squares? Triangles? Draw three things that are different shapes. How many round things can you find? How many square things? How many triangle things? Are some things made by putting together different shapes? What is the most common shape?

Bonus Activity: You can create rainbow colors at home! Squirt a dime-size amount of dish soap into a bowl. Add water. Use a straw to blow some bubbles. Can you see colors in the bubbles? Look carefully! If you can’t find colors, move the bowl to a spot with different light. Like a rainbow, the colors that swirl in a soap bubble come from white light. The surface of the bubble splits the light into many colors!

Bonus Activity: Suppose you want to make a video game. Most video games are made by a team, but you can get started by yourself. Think about what the player will do in the game. Will they explore a strange world? Will they solve puzzles? Think about what the player will see on screen. How will the game change when the player moves to a new level? How can a player win the game? Draw or write about your ideas. What will you call your video game? Describe your video game to a friend!

Bonus Activity: Masks help protect us from germs. But sometimes the straps can hurt your ears or the mask can fall under your nose. Sometimes you can even smell your own stinky breath! Can you create a better mask? Think like an inventor! What could you do to make masks more comfortable? Can you add something to the mask? Change what it’s made of? Describe or draw your new and improved mask!

Answer in complete sentences. You may use your notes in your journal if you need them.

Bonus Activity: The best way to deal with garbage is to throw less stuff away! Think about things that you use just once and then throw in the trash. Maybe you thought of plastic spoons, plastic water bottles, or plastic bags from the store. What else can you think of? How could you replace these throw-away items with things you can reuse instead? Make a list or draw a picture of the throw-away things. Be sure to include your ideas of what you could use to replace them!

Please continue to do at least 20 mins. of physical activity daily and record on this log. It will be due at the end of November.

Bonus Activity: People in the United States eat turkey on Thanksgiving. People in Ghana eat yams for the festival of Homowo. Think about your favorite food. Invent a holiday to celebrate that food. What would you call your day? What time of year would it be? What special things would you do that day? Write about or draw a picture of your favorite food celebration and send me a picture on class dojo.

Bonus Activity: A phone lets you talk to a friend who is far away. On a smartphone you can even see that person! But think about the things you can’t do over the phone. You can’t give your friend a hug. You can’t smell the cookies your friend just baked. Think like an inventor! Can you create a new kind of phone that lets you do these things? Describe or draw a picture of your invention.

Bonus Activity: One way to fight a fire is with water. In cities, that water comes through a hose. The hose gets water from the city's water supply. But in the forest, there's no water supply. And there's no place to connect a hose. Can you invent other ways to bring lots of water to a wildfire? Draw or describe at least two ways you could bring water to a wildfire without a hose.

If you are able to have the materials needed from the science video please have them ready to go before the meeting. You will need 2 cups, one with water and one with flour and water. Only fill them half way. The one with flour and water should be pretty thick. You also need 2 straws, a plate, and a spoon. AFTER the experiment fill out the google form.

Bonus Activity: Masks can protect us from germs. But when you’re wearing a mask, people can’t see if you’re smiling or frowning. Put on a mask and look at yourself in a mirror. Think about how you could show your feelings while wearing a mask. Could you use the parts of your face and body that are visible to show your feelings? What else could you do? Describe or draw your ideas.

Bonus Activity: Look in a mirror. How many different kinds of hair can you find on your head? There’s the hair that gets cut when you get a haircut. But what other hairs can you find? Take a close look at your eyes. How are your eyelashes and eyebrows the same as the hairs on top of your head? How are they different? Draw a picture of your face. Add labels to show all the places you can see hair.

Bonus Activity: How salty is ocean water? Add one teaspoon of salt to 1 1/4 cups of water. Stir until the salt disappears. Put a drop of the salty water on your tongue. It will taste just as salty as ocean water! Leave the salty water in a warm spot until all the water dries up. What is left behind?
