Mrs. Winslow's First Grade

Welcome to First Grade!
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.  My name is Mrs. Crissy Winslow and I have been teaching first graders for 37 years.  This is my 31st year at Sierra View and there is truly no place I'd rather be.  I have a great year planned ahead, so stay tuned to all that is going on.  I can hardly wait to meet my next class on August 15th.  :)

Homework
Homework will go home every Monday and is due on Friday. If your child loses it, please let me know and I'll replace it with a new one.

Newsletters
The First Grade Newsletter goes home every Monday and is also sent digitally via Parent Square through my teaching partner, Mrs. Jill Dahlem.  Please read it and refer to it so you will know what is going on in and out of the classroom.
Please read any Parent Square from myself or Mrs. Dahlem as we do many things together.

Spelling and Math Tests
Please see the weekly homework packet and weekly newsletter for the latest spelling words, phonics skills, grammar and math skills.  Our weekly spelling test is always on Friday and our math timed test in on Wednesdays.  Practicing at home will increase your child's ability to succeed.

Accelerated Reader
All students will be reading an A.R. book every night for homework and returning it the next day to test. Your child will begin the A.R. program after they know all their 200 sight words or Mrs. Winslow determines that your child is ready.  Stay tuned for my newsletters for infor about awards and deadlines for A.R.

Awards
Awards are given at the end of each trimester (Nov. March and June). They are given out for passing the math timed tests, reading a minimum number of A.R. books, positive character behavior, and math, reading and writing improvement or accomplishments.  Assemblies are held in the cafeteria and all family and friends are invited to attend.  It's a wonderful time to celebrate our students.
